For the governing board, there are two basic means that can be used to make decisions. Namely:
  • Majority vote:  def. - a vote of all members present and if a quorum is present, then more than one-half of those present voting for a motion will commit the organization
  • Consensus:  def. - processing opinions of the group until a decision is reached that everyone can support, even if they do not necessarily agree it is best

A discussion on the pros and cons of using majority vote vs consensus in decision-making. Included are steps to complete consensus decision-making for those decisions that warrant this method.
